Shoes That Made a Difference: How Our Community Stepped Up for Those in Need

Last week, the local run-club community laced up with purpose—and together, helped make a real difference. Runner Up, an initiative led by Joel from Bounce Creative, collected pre-loved runners to support those doing it tough through the charity Homeless Not Nameless.

The event—held bright and early on Friday, 30 May, at Sylvania Athletics Track—saw a powerful turnout from local run clubs, gyms, and individuals. Over 200 pairs of shoes were collected in total, with an additional 40 pairs dropped off directly to Cronulla RSL’s reception.

The early-morning session was more than just a run. It was a celebration of community spirit—with drills, 5–7k laps, coffee by St Ali, and a host of exciting prizes, including new at-home espresso machine for the biggest single donation and a $500 Cronulla RSL voucher and venue hire for the club or gym with the largest haul. Lucky shoe prizes including coffee, recovery sessions, and merch.

It was all for a fantastic cause: Homeless Not Nameless is a charity committed to supporting people experiencing homelessness. They provide essentials, dignity, and direct support to those who are often overlooked, and this campaign helps put quality, walkable shoes on the feet of those who need them most.

Joel from Bounce Creative deserves a huge shoutout for bringing this initiative to life. His passion and organisation rallied the community for a feel-good Friday morning that will have a lasting impact on lives across Sydney.

And to everyone who played a part—whether you attended, donated shoes, or simply spread the word—great job. Your generosity ensures that those doing it tough can walk a little more comfortably and feel a little more seen.

Members of Strava Sharks, Underground Run Club, Bones Track Club & Reborn Athletic gathered at Sylvania Athletic Track to support Runner Up.
