Brass, Beats & Big Smiles: Hot Potato Band Lights Up Cronulla
As part of the Cronulla Jazz & Blues Festival, Cronulla Mall came alive with the soulful sounds of brass, rhythm, and pure joy as the legendary Hot Potato Band hit the streets in spectacular style. But this wasn’t just any performance—it was a full-circle moment, right here in the Shire.
Born from humble beginnings in the Sutherland Shire, Hot Potato Band have evolved from a local busking group into an internationally recognised live music powerhouse, known for their infectious energy, genre-blending sound, and feel-good performances that light up crowds from Sydney to Singapore.
Earlier in the day, the band ran a workshop with local student musicians at Cronulla RSL, giving young talent the chance to learn from the best. In just one hour, the students learned two songs—and even jumped in for some bold improvised solos during the live street performance.
What followed was nothing short of magic: a vibrant street parade bursting with community spirit, musical talent, and a shared love of performance. Shoppers stopped in their tracks, kids danced in the mall, and the crowd couldn’t help but move to the rhythm.
This was more than just music—it was a celebration of local roots, youth empowerment, and the kind of connection only live music can bring.
A huge thank you to Hot Potato Band for inspiring the next generation of performers and proving that big things really can grow from local soil.
