Supporting Our Community
We're working with local sporting clubs, volunteer groups & charitable organisations to give back & grow the community of Cronulla.
From the 1st January - 31st December 2023, our club worked with a number of wonderful organisations and donated approximately $240,000 to the local community.
Below are the worthy recipients of funding and support in 2024.
Category 1 - Club Grants

Skillz4me - Ocean Warriors Event
Through Category 1 ClubGRANTS, Cronulla RSL were able to support Skillz4me, Ocean Warriors Event in November 2023.
The event allowed local families who have a child with a disability, the opportunity to go to the beach in a fun and supportive environment. The children were able to access the water or ride on a surfboard, for some it was their first time. Read more.

Wanda Surf Life Saving Club - First Aid Kits
Through Category 1 ClubGRANTS 2024, Cronulla RSL has assisted Wanda Surf Life Saving Club to purchase x4 First Aid Kits.
These kits will provide First Aid to the members of our community when visiting Wanda Beach and as a teaching tool in our Lifesaving and Rescue Education Programs run by the Club. Read more

Cronulla Sub-Branch Commemorative Events
Through Category 1 ClubGRANTS 2024, Cronulla RSL will assist the Cronulla Sub Branch so they can deliver valuable commemorative events to the Sutherland Shire community.
These events include ANZAC Day, Vietnam Veterans Day & Remembrance Day.
Commemorative events raise community awareness and understanding of the service and sacrifice of our military personnel and families, and promote improved veteran wellbeing outcomes through recognition and respect.

Cronulla RSL Football Club
This grant funds the CRSLFC Football Skills Academy, that provides free football skills training for CRSLFC members aged 6-9 ( 1:1 skills training from certified SSFA coaches). This is a 10 week program, that runs alongside the current 2024 football season. The program allows players to develop & grow their game skills and then apply them in their week to week games for CRSLFC.

Cronulla RSL Softball Club
This grant allowed the club to purchase equipment for their new D grade team. This allowed new players from across Sutherland Shire, the opportunity to play and lead an active healthy lifestyle.
The funding will assist with skill development and bring our teams together.

Cronulla RSL Table Tennis Club
Funding to purchase a new table tennis table and a ball dispensing robot.
The new table allowed members of the club, more opportunity to play. Ultimately, a chance to live a healthy active lifestyle.
In addition, the grant provides assistance to cover costs associated with venue hire. -
Cronulla Sutherland Boccia Club
Funding to assist with hosting a come try day, that allowed the opportunity to show and introduce the Paralympic sport to local Sutherland Shire families who have disabilities.

Cronulla Triathlon Club
Funding to to support the Cronulla Tri Club’s junior program, by providing two road bikes for loan and a further 10 junior size uniforms. These resources will provide the club with the ability to assist more juniors gain entry to the sport.

Eleoura Surf Life Saving Club
Assistance in acquiring a vital piece of training equipment - a new ski erg for the Elouera Surf Lifesaving Club. The ski erg is of significant importance to our club, especially in the development of our youth members, primarily those aged 16, 17, and 18 years old. It significantly enhances their skills, both for competitive purposes and as integral components of our volunteer lifesaving efforts on the beach.

Port Hacking Little Athletics Club
Co-Funding with Tradies & Taren Point Bowling Club, to assist with the purchase of a 24/7 AED at Sylvania Athletics Track.

St Aloysius Catholic Primary School
A collaboration with Cronulla Rotary to support the implementation of an Intergenerational Program at St Aloysius Catholic Primary School. This innovative program aims to foster meaningful connections between different generations within the Cronulla community, bringing together Year 2 students and senior Cronulla RSL members.

Cronulla RSL Hockey Club
Assistance to fund field use for training sessions in 2024, as well as match balls for competition.

A community based club that is focused on creating an inclusive and supportive environment for juniors of all ages and capabilities. They encourage players to learn the great game of AFL, form lasting friendships and thrive in an encouraging and competitive environment.

Australia Day Long Weekend
Presented by Sutherland Shire Council, a program of events to be reflective of the Australia Day Council theme: Reflect, Respect, Celebrate.
Commencing with a Sunset Cultural Ceremony and including major concerts, outdoor cinemas and pool parties at our Leisure Centres, it was an epic program for our community over three days.
Cronula RSL were the major partner of the weekend.

Cronulla Jazz & Blues Festival
Hosted in the beautiful coastal suburb of Cronulla, this free festival is staged across multiple locations and includes live music in public parks, in-venue live music, beer & wine bars, a film festival, kid's events and food & retail stalls. We love bringing people together through live music, showcasing the best that Cronulla has to offer, and have a focus on sustainability.
The Club will be hosting FREE in-venue live music from Friday 31st May - 2nd June. See more information about artists & set times below.

Youth Week - Surf Day
Local youth can hit the waves these school holidays with Cronulla Surf Academy.
They’ll enjoy a free lunch and some beach activities following the session!

Surfers Rescue 24/7
Cronulla RSL, deeply moved by the unfortunate spate of drownings and near-drownings during the previous summer, has undertaken a heartfelt initiative to ensure the safety of its local community. The Club allocated funds to Surfers Rescue 24/7, motivated by a collective desire to prevent a recurrence of the tragic events that unfolded the previous year.

Volkswagen Surfmasters 2023
The Volkswagen Cronulla Surf Masters was held on Cronulla Beach on the 21st October 2023. The one-day event saw some of NSW’s best shortboarders aged over 28 compete.
The annual event is highly regarded by former professionals to local grassroots legends who are drawn to the Sutherland Shire to compete each year.

Cronulla Surf Festival
Cronulla RSL sponsored this family friendly event, that incorporated an epic board demo day, live music, surf comps and activations and an inclusive surf session for kids with special needs. All proceeds raised helped fund the Chumpy Pullin Foundation’s Youth Mental Health initiatives.

More Than A Run
Powered by Lululemon, the initiative brought the running community across the Shire together as part of a decentralised event, with runners from around the nation running at the same time in different locations, raising funds for Movember.
The Club provided a space to gather, and ost run refreshments.

Snacktember
Throughout September, members and guests help reduce waste and feed hungry kids by dropping off your unwanted snack and pantry items to Cronulla RSL.

Box Rally - Peter Thorburn
The Club donated to David Challis and Peter Thorburn’s Shitbox Rally endeavours - the largest community lead fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 14th year. Since its launch in 2010 Shitbox Rally and it's baby brother Mystery Box Rally have raised $41 million across the past 13 years for cancer research. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5000 but most teams raise well above this amount.

11 local not-for-profit organisations (below) were invited to decorate a Christmas Tree, which was displayed in the club foyer. Members, guests, staff & board voted for their favourite tree. In total, $8,000 was donated to their wonderful causes.

Supporting animals impacted by war
AWAMO & Manic
The Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) holds a special significance at Cronulla RSL, as it actively supports and honors the legacy of military war dogs. These courageous animals, often overlooked heroes of war, played pivotal roles in safeguarding soldiers and detecting dangers on the battlefield. At Cronulla RSL, the partnership with AWAMO underscores the commitment to commemorating these loyal companions and their invaluable service to the nation. Through fundraising events, War Animal Day and advocacy efforts, Cronulla RSL ensures that the sacrifices of these four-legged warriors are recognised and respected.
The Club is also committed to supporting local military war dog Manic.

From the 1st January to 31st December 2023, Cronulla RSL worked with a number of wonderful organisations and donated approximately $240,000 to the local community.
$112,042.50 were made available to local organisations through the ClubGRANTS program (excluding $45,000 in-kind supporting the Cronulla RSL bowling green)
$128,000 sponsorships, cash donations and in-kind support
In addition, the Club also continued to remain dedicated to the recognition of remembrance days, whilst also identifying and creating more relevant ways to provide support.
