Cronulla RSL Recognised as Finalist in 2026 Clubs & Community Awards

Cronulla RSL is proud to be recognised as a finalist in the 2026 Clubs & Community Awards, with this year marking a record number of entries across New South Wales. The awards, hosted by ClubsNSW, celebrate the vital role clubs play in supporting their communities through meaningful, grassroots initiatives.

Cronulla RSL’s nomination reflects a strong and ongoing commitment to addressing real community needs, with a particular focus on veteran wellbeing and environmental sustainability. Central to this recognition is the Club’s support of the Weight of War Run, an initiative that brings veterans, families, and the wider community together to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by current and ex-serving Defence members.

In response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, Cronulla RSL has worked to strengthen its connection with the local veteran community, creating opportunities for engagement, connection, and support. The Cronulla Weight of War Run 2025 saw more than 60 participants, aged from 11 to 86, take part in a powerful show of solidarity, helping to break down stigma and foster a sense of shared purpose.

Alongside its veteran-focused initiatives, Cronulla RSL has also been recognised for its leadership in sustainability. Through practical and measurable actions, the Club has embedded environmentally responsible practices into its daily operations, from renewable energy generation to innovative waste reduction systems.

Initiatives such as the installation of solar panels, advanced recycling processes, and the introduction of the ORCA food waste system demonstrate how small, consistent changes can lead to significant environmental impact. These efforts not only reduce the Club’s carbon footprint but also set a benchmark for sustainable practices within the industry and the local community.

ClubsNSW CEO Rebecca Riant acknowledged the strength of this year’s finalists, highlighting the depth of commitment shown by clubs in identifying community needs and delivering lasting support. With more than a dozen finalists in each category, the recognition reflects the collective impact clubs are making across areas such as mental wellbeing, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

For Cronulla RSL, being named a finalist is not only an honour, but a reflection of the people and partnerships behind each initiative. From veterans and community participants to staff, volunteers, and supporting organisations, it is a shared effort that continues to drive meaningful outcomes.

The winners will be announced at the Clubs & Community Awards Night at the International Convention Centre Sydney on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
