Community Gives Back Through Books in Lieu Program

Cronulla RSL’s Books in Lieu program continues to be a meaningful way for individuals and community groups to honour service while supporting the delivery of ANZAC Day commemorations. It is an initiative that benefits local schools.

This year, a number of local organisations and community members chose to contribute through the program, each donation representing a personal or collective act of remembrance.

Groups including

  • Cronulla Point Boardriders

  • Cronulla RSL 55 & Over Club

  • Cronulla RSL Motoring Enthusiasts

  • Cronulla RSL Swimming Club Table Tennis

  • Cronulla RSL Swimming Clubs

  • North Cronulla

  • Wanda Surf Life Saving Club

  • Woolooware Golf Club

  • Caringbah Rotary

  • Marine Rescue NSW Botany Port Hacking Base also contributed, acknowledging Vietnam Veterans and all who have served.

There were also deeply personal tributes made in memory of those who served, including recognition of

Private William Samuel Gorick KIA
George Twiss of HMAS Kanimbla

The ‘Books in Lieu’ program was originally created to give members of the public and local businesses/community groups, an option of “books in lieu of wreaths” (meaning a donation, instead of a wreath laid on the Memorial).

The program has been running for well over 25 years, and it is the hope our local businesses/community groups continue on this legacy in remembrance and also continue to support our local schools.

Cronulla RSL is also proud to once again partner with De La Salle Year 12 Construction students, who crafted the crosses used in the ceremony.

Cronulla RSL thanks all organisations and individuals who contributed this year through the Books in Lieu program. Your support helps ensure this important tradition continues.
