  • More than 25,000 Australians each year suffer an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (OHSCA), with survival rates less than 10%.

How does the test work?

In less than 10 minutes, nurses from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, measure a person’s blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and provide information on modifiable risk factors and healthy heart habits.

A trained professional registered nurse takes a tiny blood sample via a finger prick and results are available immediately for each person to take away with them. They can also provide advice on healthy heart habits.

The whole thing takes less than 10 minutes.

Facts: In 2022, @heartbeatoffootball tested almost 2,000 people across Australia over 55 testing days,

An average 48% of people tested were advised to see their GP for further testing. Many have discovered they have an underlying issue, sometimes genetic and several have undergone life-saving procedures as a result.

Support the cause

We hope to raise funds to support life-saving heart research and help to have zero heart-related deaths on the sporting ground. 🩺❤️

Why it matters

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death globally, affecting millions of lives each year. While certain risk factors such as genetics and age are beyond our control, many aspects of heart health can be improved through lifestyle choices and early detection. More than 25,000 Australians each year suffer an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (OHSCA), with survival rates less than 10%.

We hope #MakeItRed Day will empower individuals to take proactive steps towards better heart health. From engaging in regular physical activity to getting routine check-ups, small actions can make a significant difference in reducing the risk of heart disease and improving overall quality of life.
