Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch Strengthens Connections Locally and Advocates Nationally

In recent weeks, members of the Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch have been strengthening relationships with fellow veterans on the South Coast while also representing the veteran community in Canberra.

As part of the Sub-Branch's Built Ready program, members travelled to Coledale RSL Club Sub-Branch for a day centred on connection, camaraderie and shared experiences. The visit highlighted the strong bonds that exist between RSL Sub-Branches and the importance of building a supportive community beyond local boundaries.

The warm welcome from Coledale made the day one to remember, with plenty of conversation, new friendships and an exciting challenge confirmed for the future. The two Sub-Branches have officially agreed to launch a "Coast to Coast" Bowls Competition, creating another opportunity for veterans to stay connected, active and engaged through a bit of friendly rivalry.

Built Ready continues to grow as more than a fitness program. It provides veterans with a supportive environment where physical wellbeing, mental health and mateship come together, helping participants build lasting connections both inside and outside the gym. More information.

While fostering connection at a local level, representatives from the Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch also travelled to Canberra to advocate on behalf of the veteran community. Sub-Branch representatives Paul Zaat, Greg Crumblin and Cory Rinaldi met with Federal Members of Parliament to discuss concerns surrounding the proposed changes to the Department of Veterans' Affairs Allied Health Cap and the potential impact on veterans.

During their visit, the delegation met with Michael McCormack, Shadow Minister for Veterans' Affairs, The Hon Phillip Thompson OAM MP, Shadow Minister for Defence Industry and Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel, and The Hon Simon Kennedy MP, Federal Member for Cook and Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition and Finance.

The meetings provided an opportunity to share the experiences of veterans and reinforce the importance of ensuring they continue to receive the health services and support they rely upon.
