Cronulla RSL Joins Hundreds of Locals for Clean Up, Up Cronulla Beach Event
Cronulla RSL was proud to be part of the Clean Up, Up Cronulla community event over the weekend, which saw more than 300 residents come together to make a real difference to our local environment.
Speaking to The Leader, Mayor, Councillor Jack Boyd said organisers were thrilled with the community turnout and the shared commitment to keeping our beaches pristine.
“We were blown away by the level of community spirit on display,” they said. “It was amazing to see locals of all ages pitching in to help protect one of Cronulla’s most loved landmarks.”
More than 100 kilograms of waste were removed from North Cronulla Beach during the event. Families enjoyed a great day out with live music, face painting, raffles and reptile displays adding to the atmosphere.
Mayor, Councillor Jack Boyd said he was delighted to see so many local residents lending a hand to beautify the beach, saying:
“We know that our community is passionate about protecting our beautiful beaches, so it was fantastic to see so many people join us at Dunningham Park to support our efforts to keep our beaches litter-free,” he said.
“The community pride on display over the course of the event was incredible to see, and serves as an important reminder that we are all responsible for doing our bit when hitting the beach to keep our waterways clear of pollution.”
“I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all those who volunteered their time to assist us in ensuring our coastline is at its spectacular best ahead of the upcoming beach season, and urge visitors to our beaches to do their part to keep our beaches clean over the coming summer months.”
The event also marked the launch of Sutherland Shire Council’s Tackling Litter program, which encourages residents to use bins responsibly and reduce waste to protect our local environment.
Cronulla RSL encourages everyone to continue the good work by taking part in ongoing beach clean initiatives. You can take three pieces of rubbish every time you visit the beach, or sign up your team or community group for a Beach Clean with the Surfrider Foundation.
