4/3 RNSWR Conquers First-Ever Kokoda Challenge in NSW to Empower Local Youth
Over the weekend of 20–21 September, 4/3 RNSWR undertook an extraordinary challenge: completing the Kokoda Challenge within the National Park, covering 96km over 36 hours, carrying full packs. This marks the first time the Kokoda Challenge has been held in New South Wales, after years of successful events in Queensland—and it happened just 30 minutes from 4/3 RNSWR HQ. The team faced a grueling test of endurance, courage, and teamwork, with little formal training.
The unit had a PMV on location, and they presented the Dog Tags to each finisher, celebrating the completion of this iconic challenge. Despite the intensity, the team pushed through, covering a total of 100km to the finish line, a true testament to their resilience, spirit, and mateship.
The Kokoda Challenge is not just a test of physical strength; it’s a mission to support the Kokoda Youth Foundation. This Australian charity runs free programs for local youth, empowering disadvantaged and disengaged kids to unlock their full potential. The values of the Spirit of Kokoda; Courage, Endurance, Mateship, and Sacrifice, guided our team every step of the way, paying tribute to Kokoda Veterans.
